Jonny Lang is one of my favourites at the moment.
One morning in May 1997, I was going to work by train as usual. I was half sleeping, half listening to the local news/music channel. Sometime after the news, the next song was introduced (I can't remember the exact wording, but it was very close to this): "We have just received an album by Jonny Lang. He is supposed to be 15 years old. I'm not even going to THINK about what he has done to his voice to make it sound like this". And then "Lie to me" started.....
I immediately woke up, and for once my "goofy" morning face cracked up in a smile the size of a Jumbo jet. A very nice surprise on a dull Tuesday morning.
He has released three albums, the newest being "Wander this world" (The others being "Smokin'" from 1995 and "Lie to me" from 1997) which shows a slightly different side of him. He is growing up, but then he was 18 in January 1999 ! - The more I listen to the new album, the more I realise how much I miss listening to it when I don't (I have to go to work, you know) !!!!
Nice thought. When he has the musical experience of a Clapton, McCartney, Phil Collins et cetera, I'll be looking at my pension. When he has the musical experience of a B.B. King, John Lee Hooker et cetera, I'll probably be dead ! - There'll still be recorded music I'll enjoy the rest of my life !!!!
