Copenhagen Blues Festival 2004

Pictures from Copenhagen Blues Festival 2002 and 2003.

Yet another try from the nice people at Copenhagen Blues Festival, and what a try !!!!!!!!! - Four days of great concerts, great bands and nice people. It was really difficult to chose where to go this year.

Wednesday started with the opening reception in Jazzhus Vognporten, where Danish Blues Name of the year was presented. Quite deservedly Peter Thorup received it this year, for his 40 years on the road, and following in the footsteps of Troels Jensen in 2002 and Mike Andersen in 2003.

Wednesday evening I went to Mojo to see a "man" (14 y.o. at the time) of the future, Joachim Svensmark, playing with the strings of his guitar. Later Mike Andersen, Esben Just and Rune Olesen took over, and were obviously having a great time playing with new people. A really great evening with a lot of nice surprises :-)

Thursday was an incredible evening in Amager Bio with first Sydney Ellis and later Troels Jensen & the Healers.

Sydney Ellis was a new to me, and a really nice surprise, singing a mixture of jazz, blues, gospel and soul. What a voice......... !!

Troels Jensen is an old favorite of mine, and he keeps getting better. His new band, The Healers, is awesome !!!

The combination of Sydney Ellis and Troels Jensen is one of the best concerts I've been to - ever !!

Friday I went to Pumpehuset, first to see The Lizzards. A great band, but the singer was a bit disappointing (Except when he played the keyboard !). He was a new band member, so that may be the reason.

Band number two was another act I'd ben looking forward to, Pat Travers, Carmine Appice and T.M. Stevens, from numerous top bands the last 30+ years, and what a performance ...... - it was loud(ish) electric 60-70's blues-rock at it's best :-)

Saturday I managed to go to no less than 3 concerts, one of them only for about 15 minutes, due to the number of people, and the heat.

I started at Vognporten with another long-time favorite of mine, Kenn Lending, this time with his Blues Band and Jan Harrington. I'd never heard her live, so it was about time :-)

Then it was upstairs to Musikcaféen to hear Smokin' Joe Kubek & Bnois King, electric Texas Blues guitar meeting jazz guitar and what a combination :-)

Then on to Mojo to see Magic Slim & The Teardrops from the deep southern states. Due to the number of people and the heat, I only managed to stay there for about 15 minutes or so, but I'm quite sure people had a great evening, because I thoroughly enjoyed the few minutes I was there.

Finally back to hear the last 15-20 minutes of Kenn Lending Blues Band and Jan Harrington.

A really great weekend with a lot of great concerts, and I'm sure, a lot more amongst those I didn't see. After four days of work, meetings and concerts, I was more dead than tired, but incredibly happy :-)

Can't wait to see what happens in 2005 !!!!
